Students wanting to pursue management programs often ask this question. It is one of those higher education-related dilemmas that needs a final addressal in order to end the confusion among students when it comes to making the right career choice based on whether to pursue a BBA or an MBA program. In this article, we will be comparing both types of qualifications and assess which one suits you the best.

What Is BBA?

BBA is the abbreviation for Bachelor of Business Administration. It is usually a three years full-time management degree program that aims to equip students with the basic knowledge related to the world of business. Subjects covered under a BBA curriculum typically include Economics, Financial Accounting, Human Resources Management, Operations Management, Marketing Management, etc. Students are given a foundational knowledge base for pursuing higher courses like MBA or landing a management job.

What Is MBA?

MBA is the abbreviation for Master of Business Administration. This full-time post-graduate management degree program is usually of two years designed specifically to render specialized knowledge to students. An MBA curriculum usually includes advanced business and management-related subjects including Strategic Management, International Business Management, Entrepreneurship & Small Business Management, Management Information Systems, Information Technology Management, Financial Markets & Analyses, Digital Marketing & Branding, Public Relations Management, Stakeholder Management, etc. As you can see, an MBA program is geared towards the field-specific development of the students, making them experts in their selected areas of specialization.

The Key Differences

To enroll in BBA programs, students have to first pass their 10+2 board exams with a minimum aggregate of 50% in any stream and then apply for BBA programs. Some reputed colleges or universities conduct their own set of assessments for evaluating the candidature of applicants. In that case, the students have to crack the respective rounds of assessments before getting selected for a BBA program. Some popular BBA entrance exams are:

  1. IPMAT (Integrated Program Management Test)
  2. SET (Symbiosis Entrance Test)
  3. DU JAT (Delhi University Joint Admission Test)
  4. AIMA UGAT (All India Management Association Undergraduate Aptitude Test)
  5. IPU CET (Indraprastha University Common Entrance Test)

On the other hand, if you want to enroll in an MBA program, then first you need to graduate in any stream from a recognized university with a minimum aggregate of 50% and then clear standardized entrance exams before getting into a reputed higher education institute. Once qualified, students typically have to appear and crack interviews and group discussion rounds where they have to showcase their aptitude, skills, and merit to the respective panels. Like BBA, some reputed higher education institutions conduct their own set of assessments prior to giving admissions. Either way, students have to secure their percentage above the minimum cutoff range. Some popular MBA entrance exams are:

  1. CAT (Common Admission Test)
  2. MAT (Management Aptitude Test)
  3. GMAT (Graduate Management Aptitude Test)
  4. GRE (Graduate Record Examination)
  5. NMAT (Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies Aptitude Test)
  6. SNAP (Symbiosis National Aptitude Test)
  7. IIFTAT (Indian Institute of Foreign Trade Admission Test)
  8. XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test)

Which One Should You Choose?

To put it simply, go for a BBA program if you wish to pursue business studies from the very start and have a future aim of either going for a core management-related position or pursuing an MBA or PGDM program. Else, if you want to graduate in professional fields like engineering, journalism, mass media, etc prior to getting a post-graduate degree in management, then go for an MBA. Either way, you will have ample opportunities to grow your competencies and secure lucrative opportunities in the future.
